The geocoin is issued on the occasion of the mega-event GC9G9H2 - The Sun - Our Closest Star / Czech Republic at ESO.
The obverse of the geocoin commemorates the long tradition of visual observations of the Sun, thanks to which solar activity, which fluctuates in eleven-year cycles, is evaluated. The reverse of the geocoin commemorates the most prominent observer, Mr. Ladislav Schmied from Kunžak, who made almost 12,500 observations in his lifetime, which is the largest number of observations in the world.
